Dry Rot and Wood Rot Repair Cost in Martinez & Contra Costa County

What dry rot repair costs in Martinez and the East Bay for trim, fascia, window sills and deck boards, and how to tell cosmetic rot from structural damage.

Wood rot is common in California homes where water gets in at trim, sills and deck boards. Small repairs are inexpensive. Big ones aren’t, which is why finding and fixing rot early matters.

These are general ranges, not a quote. Materials are extra.

Typical Prices

  • Small patch repair (epoxy and filler on a limited area): about $150–$350
  • Replace a section of trim or fascia board: about $200–$450
  • Window sill repair: about $150–$300
  • Door jamb repair: about $150–$350
  • Replace a few deck boards: about $150–$350
  • Seal, prime and caulk after repair: often included

Cosmetic vs. Structural Rot

Cosmetic rot sits in trim, sills, fascia and the ends of deck boards. A screwdriver pushes in easily, but the wood behind is sound. This is handyman work.

Structural rot reaches framing, sill plates, subfloors, roof structure or posts that carry weight. It needs a licensed contractor, and often a permit. If I find structural signs, I’ll tell you, and show you a photo.

Rot vs. Termites

Dry rot comes from moisture and fungus. Termites are insects. The two can look similar and can be present together. A licensed structural pest control company inspects and treats for termites. I repair wood, but I don’t diagnose pests.

What Changes the Price

Extent of damage. Rot spreads past what’s visible. Sometimes cutting out one board reveals more.

Access. High trim and tight corners take longer.

Material. Painted trim, redwood or cedar and PVC trim all cost differently.

The cause. Fixing the water source adds time but makes the repair last.

Why It Happens

Failed caulk and paint at joints, clogged gutters overflowing onto trim, and poor drainage near the ground are the usual causes. A gutter cleaning before the rainy season is cheaper than replacing fascia boards afterward.
