Tile & Grout Repair in Martinez & Contra Costa County
Cracked or loose tile, crumbling grout and failed caulk let water behind the wall, which is how a small repair turns into a big one. I regrout small areas, replace damaged tiles, re-secure loose tiles and re-caulk showers, tubs and backsplashes. If water has already damaged what's behind the tile, I'll tell you instead of covering it up.
What's Included
- Regrouting cracked or missing grout lines
- Cracked and chipped tile replacement (where a match is available)
- Loose tile re-adhesion
- Shower and tub caulk replacement
- Kitchen backsplash grout and caulk repair
- Grout sealing
- Grout haze and stain cleaning
- Floor and wall tile inspection for hollow spots
Grout versus caulk
Grout fills flat joints between tiles. Caulk fills corners and joints between different surfaces such as tub and tile. Using grout where caulk belongs is one of the most common reasons for cracking and leaks in showers.
Signs the problem is bigger than grout
Soft or spongy walls, tiles that sound hollow across a wide area, black staining that returns after cleaning, and water stains on the other side of the wall all suggest moisture behind the tile. That's worth an assessment before any cosmetic repair.
Pricing
I price each job by the size of the work, access, and materials, and I quote before I start. Single-visit jobs like this stay well under California's $1,000 limit for unlicensed handyman work. Send a few photos and a short description for a quote.
When I'll Refer You to a Licensed Pro
Water damage behind tile, soft walls, mold, a leaking shower pan, and a full retile are not handyman repairs. They need a licensed tile or general contractor, and usually go past California's $1,000 limit. I'll tell you if I find signs of that.
Bay Bilt is not a licensed contractor. Work is limited to jobs under $1,000 (labor and materials). Insured.
